In 2008, Kristin Stobbink began her studies in Visual Arts and Design Education at the Northern University of Applied Sciences in Leeuwarden. During her studies, she had the opportunity to pursue a minor abroad, an opportunity she eagerly seized. In 2012, Stobbink studied at the Education University of Hong Kong, where she studied Printmaking, among other subjects. In addition to her studies in Hong Kong, she traveled extensively through China. At the end of her studies at the Northern University, she graduated with a series of landscape prints.

“At the moment, I am a young, driven printmaker and teacher of visual arts/technology at secondary education. I work as an artist at the Printmaking Atelier Friesland in Leeuwarden. It is very important to me to connect artistry with education, helping students discover their talents and showing them the possibilities of their own creative abilities. I also place great value on my own development as an artist. That’s why I enjoy collaborating with other artists on art projects.”

Why water fascinates me so much. Water has so many elements at play. It is liquid, set in motion by the wind, has natural currents, splashes, and can change in form and substance (becoming ice or snow). It is transparent; a sea or ditch never consists of water alone; it can be murky and dirty—with water plants and fish. It reflects its surroundings and refracts light. Just a blue surface does not adequately represent water or a seascape. Water is dynamic; it moves, but capturing that movement and form presents endless possibilities.

The deeper layer of my work. “In my work as an artist, it is not primarily my intention to impose a meaning on people or direct their own interpretations. However, within the closed bubble of my own creative capacity—where the rest of the world does not exist—I subtly guide the future observer. You understand, like many, that the reality is that we humans make the beauty of nature finite. We begin to wonder why we do certain things, think, or (not) see.”
